According
to the National Statistic Office of South Korea, the most popular family names
in South Korean includes Kim, Lee, Park, Choi, Jeong, Kang, Cho, Yoon, Jang and
Shin for both native Korean and non-Korean who acquire citizenship. Some
relevant statistic also report by the Supreme Court was that out of 200 people
who become Korean citizens between 2012 and 2013 select the popular family name
as Kim.
According
to South Korean government statistics in 2006, the most popular name Kim
dominated 21.6% of the total population. Lee took top two with 14.8%, then Park
with 8.5%, Choi with 4.7%, etc. Moreover, a South Korean court official stated
that the increasing in popularity of international marriages, diversity with
Korean family names is continuing to rise.
