Like traditional drinks in other countries, Korean’s traditional beverages are divided into two categories: alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Although alcohol in Korea is very famous, there are still over 200 types of traditional juices, teas and grain drinks associated with the latter group, call as eumcheognyu.

There are many drinks that need to try…so we decided to winnow the list down to 10 drinks for your easy decisions.

This is a list of top 10 interesting and delicious traditional Korean drinks:

Banana uyu

Banana uyu or Banana milk is a Korean drink which make from the mixture of milk and banana. It can be found anywhere in South Korea, from street stalls to supermarket.

This drink is a light version for those who are on diet.

Cheounjin

It is a Korean rice wine. One of the most well-known brands of Cheonguj is “Chung Ha”. “Chung Ha” is located in various locations, including Beopju- the ancient city of Gyeongju.

Ogsususuyeom Cha

Ogsususuyeon Cha is Corn Tea. It can make from dried corn silk or roasted and dried corn kernels. The taste is well and corn.

Huyn Bin – a famous Korean actor is the face for Kwang Dong Corn Silk tea. On the advertising, he said that the drink can give drinkers V-line faces.

Yulmu

Yulmu is well-known as traditional Korean tea. However, the taste is less like a traditional tea, it can be eaten like a savory cereal. Yulmu comes in the powdered form along with almonds, walnuts or other nuts

This drink is very good for health. In Korea, people usually drink Yulmu in the morning.

Soju

Soju is one of the most famous distilled drink native to Korea. The taste of Souju can be compared with Vodka. Most of Soju brands come from South Korea.

Soju is made from rice, potatoes, wheat, tapioca and barley.

Makgeolli

Makgeolli is made from the mixture of rice and wheat, so that it has a milky, off-white color.

The alcohol content of Makgeolli is between 6%-8%.

Baekseju

It is glutinous rice based fermented alcoholic drink flavored with many kinds of herbs and ginseng. According to Korean’s history, Baekseju can help drinker live to be 100 years old.

Bokbunja

Bokbunja, a Korean dessert wine, is compared with the international wine scene. Bokbunja has the color of oxblood. The sweet taste of berry flavor reminds a red wine.

The alcohol content is between 14%-16%. Interestingly, according to the traditional, Bokbunja is wine which uses to improve libido.

Maesil Cha

It is green plum tea. Maesil Cha is a popular drink in South Korea in summer time.

Yuja Cha

Yuja Cha, or Lemon tea, is a traditional Korean tea which made from citron. This drink usually combined with sugar or honey.

In Korea, Yuja Cha is used as an herbal remedy for flu and other winter illnesses.

Sikhye

Sikhye is the traditional sweet rice drink of Korea. It normally serves as a dessert. The main ingredients of Sikhye are rice and some cases pine nuts.

Sikhye is purchased in restaurants, cafes, saunas and jjimjjilbang.
